However, this form should not be used as a single medication in a child or teenager who is younger than 16 years old.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eExtended-release \u003cstrong\u003eLamictal XR\u003c\/strong\u003e is for use only in adults and children who are at least 13 years old.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003ch5\u003eHow should I use this medication?\u003c\/h5\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eTake \u003cstrong\u003eLamictal\u003c\/strong\u003e exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Follow all directions on your prescription label and read all medication guides or instruction sheets. Your doctor may occasionally change your dose.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eTaking too much \u003cstrong\u003eLamictal\u003c\/strong\u003e at the start of treatment may increase your risk of a severe life-threatening skin rash.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eYou may need frequent blood tests to help your doctor make sure you are taking the right dose.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eExtended-release and immediate-release \u003cstrong\u003eLamictal\u003c\/strong\u003e may be used for different conditions. Do not crush, chew, or break it.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eLamictal\u003c\/strong\u003e chewable dispersible tablets may be swallowed whole, chewed, or mixed with water or diluted fruit juice.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eRead and carefully follow any Instructions for Use provided with the orally disintegrating or dispersible tablets. Ask your doctor or pharmacist if you do not understand these instructions.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eDo not stop using this medicine suddenly, even if you feel fine. Stopping suddenly may cause increased seizures. Follow your doctor's instructions about tapering your dose.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eIn case of emergency, wear or carry medical identification to let others know you use seizure medication.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eLamotrigine may affect a drug-screening urine test and you may have false results. Tell the laboratory staff that you use lamotrigine.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003ch5\u003eWhat if I miss a dose?\u003c\/h5\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eTake the medicine as soon as you can, but skip the missed dose if it is almost time for your next dose. Do not take two doses at one time.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eGet your prescription refilled before you run out of medicine completely.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003ch5\u003eHow should I store this medication?\u003c\/h5\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eStore at room temperature away from light and moisture.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003ch5\u003eWhat are the possible side effects of using this medication?\u003c\/h5\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eGet emergency medical help if you have signs of an allergic reaction to \u003cstrong\u003eLamictal\u003c\/strong\u003e (hives, difficult breathing, swelling in your face or throat) or a severe skin reaction (fever, sore throat, burning eyes, skin pain, red or purple skin rash with blistering and peeling).\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eIf you have to stop taking lamotrigine because of a serious skin rash, you may not be able to take it again in the future.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eReport any new or worsening symptoms to your doctor, such as: mood or behavior changes, depression, anxiety, or if you feel agitated, hostile, restless, hyperactive (mentally or physically), or have thoughts about suicide or hurting yourself.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eCall your doctor at once if you have:\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cul\u003e\n\u003cli\u003efast, slow, or pounding heartbeats or fluttering in your chest;\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003echest pain, shortness of breath;\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003efever, swollen glands, weakness, severe muscle pain;\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003eany skin rash, especially with blistering or peeling;\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003epainful sores in your mouth or around your eyes;\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003eheadache, neck stiffness, increased sensitivity to light, nausea, vomiting, confusion, drowsiness;\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003ejaundice (yellowing of the skin or eyes); or\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003epale skin, cold hands and feet, easy bruising, unusual bleeding.\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003c\/ul\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eCommon \u003cstrong\u003eLamictal\u003c\/strong\u003e side effects may include:\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cul\u003e\n\u003cli\u003eheadache, dizziness;\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003eblurred vision, double vision;\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003etremor, loss of coordination;\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003edry mouth, nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, diarrhea;\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003efever, sore throat, runny nose;\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003edrowsiness, tired feeling;\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003eback pain; or\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003esleep problems (insomnia).\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003c\/ul\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThis is not a complete list of side effects and others may occur.
