Use the medicine exactly as directed.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eTake \u003cstrong\u003eValganciclovir\u003c\/strong\u003e with food.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eValganciclovir\u003c\/strong\u003e tablets are for adults or children, but \u003cstrong\u003eValganciclovir\u003c\/strong\u003e liquid is only for children.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eShake the oral suspension (liquid). Measure a dose with the supplied measuring device (not a kitchen spoon).\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eDo not crush or break a \u003cstrong\u003eValganciclovir\u003c\/strong\u003e tablet. The medicine from a crushed or broken pill can be dangerous if it gets in your eyes or on your skin. If this occurs, wash your skin with soap and water or rinse your eyes with water.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eWhile using \u003cstrong\u003eValganciclovir\u003c\/strong\u003e, you may need frequent blood tests.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eYou should have your eyes checked at least every 4 to 6 weeks while you are using \u003cstrong\u003eValganciclovir\u003c\/strong\u003e for CMV. Your doctor may want you to have eye exams more often.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eUse \u003cstrong\u003eValganciclovir\u003c\/strong\u003e regularly to get the most benefit. Get your prescription refilled before you run out of medicine completely.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003ch5\u003eWhat if I miss a dose?\u003c\/h5\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eTake the medicine as soon as you can, but skip the missed dose if it is almost time for your next dose. Do not take two doses at one time.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003ch5\u003eHow should I store this medication?\u003c\/h5\u003e\n\u003cul\u003e\n\u003cli\u003eStore \u003cstrong\u003eValganciclovir\u003c\/strong\u003e tablets at room temperature away from moisture and heat.\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003eStore \u003cstrong\u003eValganciclovir\u003c\/strong\u003e liquid in the refrigerator. Do not freeze. Throw away any unused after 49 days.\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003c\/ul\u003e\n\u003ch5\u003eWhat should I avoid while taking Valganciclovir?\u003c\/h5\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eAvoid being near people who are sick or have infections. Tell your doctor at once if you develop signs of infection. Avoid activities that may increase your risk of bleeding or injury.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eAvoid driving or hazardous activity until you know how \u003cstrong\u003eValganciclovir\u003c\/strong\u003e will affect you. Your reactions could be impaired.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eUsing this medicine will not prevent your disease from spreading. Do not have unprotected sex or share razors or toothbrushes. Ask your doctor how to prevent HIV transmission during sex. Sharing drug or medicine needles is never safe.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003ch5\u003eWhat are the possible side effects of using this medication?\u003c\/h5\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eGet emergency medical help if you have signs of an allergic reaction:\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cul\u003e\n\u003cli\u003ehives;\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003edifficulty breathing;\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003eswelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat.\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003c\/ul\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eSerious infections may occur during treatment with \u003cstrong\u003eValganciclovir\u003c\/strong\u003e. Call your doctor right away if you have signs of infection such as:\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cul\u003e\n\u003cli\u003efever, chills, tiredness, flu-like symptoms;\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003efeeling light-headed or short of breath;\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003emouth sores, skin sores;\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003epale skin, cold hands and feet; or\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003eeasy bruising, unusual bleeding (nose, mouth, vagina, or rectum).\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003c\/ul\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eAlso call your doctor at once if you have:\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cul\u003e\n\u003cli\u003ea seizure (convulsions);\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003epain or burning when you urinate;\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003epain or swelling near your transplanted organ; or\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003ekidney problems--little or no urination; painful or difficult urination; swelling in your feet or ankles; feeling tired or short of breath.\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003eKidney problems may be more likely in older adults.\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003c\/ul\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eCommon side effects of \u003cstrong\u003eValganciclovir\u003c\/strong\u003e may include:\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cul\u003e\n\u003cli\u003efever, chills, tiredness, mouth sores, skin sores, easy bruising, unusual bleeding, feeling light-headed or short of breath;\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003epain or burning when you urinate;\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003enausea, vomiting, diarrhea;\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003eheadache;\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003etremors;\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003esleep problems (insomnia); or\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003ecold symptoms such as stuffy nose, sneezing, sore throat.\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003c\/ul\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThis is not a complete list of side effects and others may occur.
